The imagery — muscular men in cowboy hats, chaps, and boots — captures that whole aesthetic perfectly.\n\nThat stretch of Third Avenue on the Upper East Side was actually a notable gay cruising corridor — you could walk up Third Avenue on the East Side and encounter gay bars all the way up.  Chaps fit right into that scene, though with a more rugged Western-leather identity compared to the preppy crowd at some of the nearby bars.\n\nIt’s a fairly obscure piece of NYC gay bar history —
